HOOSIERS FACE NATION'S ELITE IN INDIANAPOLIS
Members of the Indiana men's swim team began the first day of the U.S. Open Championships in
Indianapolis. Head Coach Kris Kirchner sent 14 Hoosiers to the first day of the national meet.
Competing at the meet were Ken Ackermann, Nick Arzner, Jason Carlberg, Rob Chelle, Tom Davis,
Chris Gage, Don Gold, Ben Hunter, Rob Iglinski, Kyle Rusche, Justin Schnute, Joe Trent, Tom Trent,
and Tom Wanezek.
Senior Rob Iglinski had the best performance of the day for Indiana by winning the bonus
consolation final in the 200 IM. His finals time of 2:10.47 put him at 17th overall. He was
the only Hoosier to make it to the Thursday evening finals.
The 800 freestyle relay team came in seventh out of 14 teams. Kyle Goodrich, Chris Gage, Mike
Richley, and Brian Stryker finished with a time of 7:54.58. The University of Southern California
won the relay with a time of 7:37.62.
Day two of the U.S. Open is scheduled to start at 9:00am on Friday with preliminaries and finals
start at 6:00pm.
