Swimmers Take Stage at U.S. Nationals; Divers Compete at Ohio State Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - A mixed weekend of action continued Friday for Indiana swimming and diving as the swimmers continued competition at the ConocoPhillips U.S. Short Course National Championships in Atlanta, Ga., while the divers opened competition at the Ohio State Invitational.
Competing in Columbus, Christina Loukas won the women's three-meter springboard competition with a score of 363.90 in the final round. Brittney Feldman was sixth (285.65), followed by Amy Korthauer in eighth (267.10) and Gabby Agostino 14th (267.70).
In the men's one-meter competition, Landon Marzullo was 12th (297.40), while Robert Dohring recorded a 17th-place finish (257.05). Linus Altman-Kurosaki was 21st (220.75) and Jonathan Dohring 23rd (195.40).
In Atlanta, Donna Smailis took second in the B final of the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.24. That time was identical to her morning prelim swim. Brittany Barwegen was fifth in the same final with a time of 54.89. Her mark of 54.58 in the morning session is a season best.
Nikki White was eighth in the consolation final of the 200 free, clocking in at 1:49.23. Her time of 1:47.92 in the morning prelims is the fourth fastest in school history. Smailis also competed in the 200 free, posting a time of 1:49.71 in prelims, while Amanda Smith came home in 1:50.30 during the morning session.
On the men's side former IU standouts Ben Hesen and Todd Patrick qualified for the evening swim in the 100 fly, with Hesen seventh in the consolation final (47.90) and Patrick second in the bonus final (47.95). Hesen also took third in the A final of the 100 backstroke (45.99). Freshman Eric Ress swam the consolation final of the 100 back, matching his morning prelim time of 48.88 to finish third.
Sophomore Titus Knight recorded a season best in the 200 free, finishing sixth in 1:36.27. Ress swam in the morning session, putt up a season-best time of 1:38.83, while Cody Weik was clocked in 1:40.91.
