Indiana University sophomore swimmer Steve Schmuhl posted a top-15 finish in the 400-meter individual medley Thursday at the 2012 World Short Course Championships at the Sinan Erdem Dome in Istanbul, Turkey.
Schmuhl posted a time of 4:10.38, good for 12th overall and missing out on a spot in the championship final by less than two seconds. Schmuhl was the third-youngest competitor among the top-15 finishers.
Japan's Daiya Seto was the top qualifier for the championship final, followed by Laszlo Cseh (Hungary), Gal Nevo (Israel), David Verrastzo (Hungary), Diogo Carvalho (Portugal), Kosuke Hagino (Japan), Chris Christensen (Denmark) and Michael Weiss (USA).
