    Assistant Coach

    Sander Koning will begin his first year as an assistant coach with the IU men's tennis team.

    Koning played and coached at Clemson University and was most recently an assistant coach at Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va., from 2011-14.

    While at Old Dominion, Koning coached three All-Conference players, including Carlos Lopez-Villa, who won the ITA Regional Singles Championships in 2013 and was ranked as high as No. 30. Koning also coached the doubles team of Lopez-Villa and Can Cetinel to a season high ranking of No. 24.

    At Old Dominion Koning helped the tennis team achieve their highest GPA in school history and had four All-Academic selections.

    Prior to working at Old Dominion, Koning was a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Clemson University. Koning played at Clemson and was a two-time All-ACC selection and four-time All-ACC Academic honoree. Koning was a team captain during his senior year on the tennis team and was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

    Koning earned a Bachelor's degree in Sport Marketing from Clemson and a master's degree in Sport Management in 2008.
