    PREP/PERSONAL: Ranked as high as 231 by the ITF ... twice advanced to tournament finals in international competition ... won several national tournaments in Germany ... was ranked second in the Netherlands prior to moving to Germany at the age of 16 ... has held the number one ranking in Bavaria for his age group ... won Munich titles in 2009 and 2008 in the under-18 division ... took the 2008 crown in the Landesliga Men's Competition ... also played soccer for five years and field hockey for two years ... the intended legal studies major is the son of Johannes and Martina van Gils ... has a brother, Tobias ... born February 16, 1991.
