    BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana University men's tennis team opened its dual-match season with victories over Morehead State and IPFW on Monday, Jan. 15.

    "It was good day for us," head coach Ken Hydinger said. "We played some good tennis and got used to some good competition. We came out and did the job right. I am very pleased with the outcome."

    The Hoosiers defeated Morehead State 6-1 in the morning. After clinching the doubles point behind wins from the teams of senior David Bubenicek and sophomore Peter Antons at No. 2 doubles and junior Michael McCarthy and sophomore Mak Kendall at No. 3 doubles, Indiana won five of the six singles matches to run away with the win.

    Against IPFW in the afternoon, the Hoosiers swept all nine matches for a 7-0 win.

    Notable on the day was Bubenicek, who is currently ranked at No. 48 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings. The senior from Kromeriz, Czech Republic, is 12-3 on the year. He defeated Jacob McLeod of Morehead State 6-4, 6-1, then downed Nabil Mourad Filho of IPFW, 6-1, 6-0, in the afternoon. He went 2-0 on the day with Antons at No. 2 doubles.

    Junior Dara McLoughlin also had a solid day at No. 2 singles, allowing his opponents to only take two games on the day. He beat Morehead State's Adam Storti in the morning, 6-0, 6-1, then powered past IPFW's Hermann Kuschke, 6-1, 6-0. He went 1-1 with junior transfer Thomas Richter at No. 1 doubles.

     

     

    The Hoosiers are currently ranked No. 58 in the latest ITA team rankings.

    Indiana returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 20, in Bloomington against Toledo at 10 a.m. and Murray State at 4 p.m.
