Hoosiers Open the Season 2-0

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Hoosiers opened the 2011 slate of dual matches with a win over No. 57 North Carolina State and a win over in-state rival IUPUI. The Hoosiers took the 5-2 win over the Wolfpack, clinching the match with a victory from Stephen Vogl at number six singles. Against IUPUI, the Hoosiers completed the sweep, winning 7-0.
After dropping the doubles point, IU fought for wins in a five out of the six singles matches against an NC State squad that boasted three nationally-ranked singles players. The only loss came to No. 61 Jaime Pulgar at number one singles, with Jeremy Langer falling 6-4, 6-2.
Josh MacTaggart defeated No. 82 Dominic Hodgson at number two by a score of 6-2, 7-5, and Santiago Gruter defeated No. 106 Dave Thomson 6-3, 7-6. Vogl closed things out with a three set victory over Ivan Sanchez Gomez (6-4, 4-6, 6-3).
Against IUPUI, the Hoosiers went about their business, taking all three doubles matches and all six singles matches in straight sets.
