Hoosiers Take Doubleheader With Pair of 7-0 Wins
Feb. 11, 2011
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Hoosiers took care of business in a doubleheader with Illinois State and Central Florida on Friday, winning both matches by a 7-0 score. After a scare in doubles play against the Redbirds, the Hoosiers got on a roll and didn't drop a match the rest of the day. The Hoosiers move to 8-2 on the year.
Against Illinois State, the Hoosiers dominated at number two doubles with an 8-0 win from Josh MacTaggart and Stephen Vogl, but fell to a ranked doubles pair at number one. IU took a tight match at number three, getting a 9-8 (8-6) win from Will Kendall and Isade Juneau. That victory got the ball rolling for the Hoosiers from that point on.
The Hoosiers swept singles play, with the closest call at number one singles, Jeremy Langer defeated No. 115 Timon Reichelt in a marathon match. The junior from Toronto came out on top 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 (4), for his first win of the season over a ranked opponent.
The Hoosiers went unscathed against the Knights, with only Juneau's match at number five singles taking a third set. In the six singles matches, IU won 10 of the 13 sets played by a score of 6-2 or better.
The Hoosiers return to action with another doubleheader on Sunday. IU squares off with No. 24 Oklahoma at noon Sunday and then takes battle with Toledo at 6 pm. For complete coverage of IU men's tennis, stay tuned to IUHoosiers.com.
