BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 58 Indiana men’s tennis team won the doubles point with a dramatic 8-7 victory, but couldn’t carry that momentum on to singles as they fell 5-2 against No. 1 Ohio State on Monday.

The Hoosiers (7-6, 0-1 in Big Ten) rallied after dropping the first doubles match 8-7 to win at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, 8-3 and 8-7.

Sophomore Daniel Bednarczyk was the lone victor in singles for the Hoosiers as he won at No. 4 singles 6-3, 5-7, 6-2.

Ohio State (15-0) won five of the six singles matches to take the dual match 5-2.

With three matches going to a third set, IU head coach Randy Bloemendaal said he sees progress from his young team.

“I think we are taking steps and continually improving,” he said. “We are putting ourselves in position against some really good teams and we are competing well with them.”

Up next the Hoosiers welcome Darmouth and Illinois State on Sunday March 2 at 10AM and 3PM.
