#19 Texas A&M Tops #31 Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The #31 Indiana University men's tennis team had their three-match winning streak snapped Wednesday night, dropping a 5-2 decision at #19 Texas A&M. Freshman Santiago Gruter won his fourth consecutive singles match, however, a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Kayvon Karimi.
Indiana took the early lead, winning two of three doubles matches. The Hoosiers' Phillip Eilers and Lachlan Ferguson began by pulling away from a 5-5 tie to top Chris Chirico and Conor Pollock, 8-5, at the No. 1 line. Texas A&M's Austin Krajicek and Wil Spencer evened the contest with an 8-5 victory over Dave McLoughlin and Thomas Richter at No. 2 doubles.
The point was decided by the third doubles contest which was tied 6-all. Then Peter Antons and Santiago Gunter held serve to take a 7-6 lead before breaking the Aggies to end the match as Texas A&M double faulted at match point. Antons and Gruter improved to 9-0 as partners in dual matches thus far and 18-2 overall for 2007-08.
After winning their 11th doubles point in 13 matches, the Hoosiers fell behind 2-2 by dropping the second and third singles match-ups. The Cream and Crimson did not trail for long with Gruter's triumph knotting the team score at 2-2.
The remaining three matches all went in favor of the Aggies, including a pair of three-set contests.
No. 1 - Eilers-Ferguson (IU) def. Chirico-Pollock (A&M), 8-5
No. 2 - Krajicek-Spencer (A&M) def. McLoughlin-Richter (IU), 8-5
No. 3 - Peter Antons-Gruter (IU) def. Bain-Mike Beatty (A&M), 8-6
Indiana returns to Bloomington for their next competition, a home match versus Louisville on Tuesday, March 18 at 1:30 p.m.
