Hoosiers Fall To Wisconsin, 5-2
April 7, 2007
MADISON, Wis. - Despite solid singles play that saw four matches go into three sets, the Indiana men's tennis team fell to Wisconsin, 5-2.
The Hoosiers secured wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles from David Bubenicek and Thomas Richter, respectively. Bubenicek defeated Jeremy Sonkin, 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (8), at No. 1, while Richter downed former Big Ten indoor singles champion Nolan Polley, 7-6, 6-2.
Richter also earned a win at No. 1 doubles with Dara McLoughlin, 8-4, over Moritz Baumann and Lachezar Kasarov.
"We didn't play that well in doubles, and our guys really came back strong in singles after that," head coach Ken Hydinger said. "We had some chances. Their courts are difficult to play on and the guys did a good job of fighting back, we just didn't finish. Thomas had a great day in singles, and David came back after a rough doubles match. He really had to run down some balls to win."
The Hoosiers return to action on Sunday, April 8, against Northwestern.
