BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The #38 Indiana University men's tennis team put the Cream and Crimson ahead in the AT&T Crimson and Gold with a 6-1 victory at Purdue on Saturday. IU improves to 14-6 overall and 4-3 in the conference with the win. Senior Dara McLoughlin cracked the IU all-time top ten with his 62nd career doubles victory.

"The freshmen were phenomenal today," said Head Coach Randy Bloemendaal. "They were the difference out there. (Lachlan) Ferg(uson) and (Phillip) Eilers clinched the win in doubles. They were at a different level of energy today, brought it all day long. (Santiago) Gruter faced a lot of adversity, but fought through it for the win in singles."

McLoughlin and Thomas Richter won their sixth consecutive doubles match to begin the day, 8-3. The win sketched McLoughlin's name in the IU record books, evening him with David Held (1990-93) for number 10 on the career doubles wins list. After a loss in the third doubles match, Eilers and Ferguson iced the doubles point with their 8-5 triumph in the No. 2 position.

"We started good and finished good," said Bloemendaal. "Purdue is a tough team to beat on the road. I am very encouraged by this, the overall team effort was good."

The team outcome was determined quickly when the Hoosiers grabbed the first four singles contests. Ferguson, Gruter, Richter and Eilers each picked up straight set victories over the Boilermakers.

"Eilers played one of his best matches this season," said Bloemendaal. "The key was he really finished the match. At the end of both his singles and doubles matches, he was simply dominating. He was our sparkplug all day long."

Senior Michael McCarthy was responsible for Indiana's sixth point. The Cincinnati, Ohio native got up big in set one before suffering a setback and dropping it 7-5. He did not fall apart, however, responding with back-to-back 6-3 winning sets in the No. 6 singles slot.
