Three Hoosiers Advance to Finals at Hoosier Invitational
Sept. 19, 2009
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The top two draws at the Hoosier Invitational are aptly named the IU and Hoosier flights. IU players have owned the flights thus far and hold three of the four spots in the two championship matches scheduled for Sunday morning. Junior Santiago Gruter will square off with Bobby Deye of Xavier in the final of the top flight, and true freshmen Isade Juneau and Josh MacTaggart will face off in the final of the Hoosier flight.
Gruter advanced to the final by winning two matches in style, taking a 6-1, 6-3 decision over Brandon Florez of Southern Illinois and a 6-2, 6-3 win over Robert Hall of Louisville. Gruter and Deye will square off at 9:30 am ET on Sunday at the IU Varsity Courts.
Juneau and MacTaggart, both playing in their first collegiate tournament, will play at 9:30 on Sunday as well. MacTaggart has yet to lose more than two games in a set in the tournament, while Juneau has shown the ability to battle, winning a three-set effort over Pablo Olivarez of Western Michigan.
Action starts back up on Sunday with the doubles finals at 8 am ET and singles finals at 9:30 and 11:30. For all things IU tennis, stay tuned to IUHoosiers.com.
