Hoosiers Open Louisville Invitational Tournament

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Three IU men's tennis players are spending the weekend in Louisville, competing in the Louisville Invitational Tournament, which opened on Friday. Sophomore Santiago Gruter and freshmen Jonathan Schroeder and Stephen Vogl all competed on the day.
Gruter opened the tournament with gusto, winning two singles matches and a doubles match to advance to the quarterfinals in each bracket. In the 'A' flight singles, Gruter downed Andrey Yesipov of UT-Martin in the opening round (6-4,6-0) and Rob West of Cleveland State (6-3,6-1) to earn a matchup with Marek Czerwinski in the quarters.
Joined by Vogl, Gruter dismissed foes from Murray State (8-5) to advance to a quarterfinal matchup of the 'A' flight doubles with Orno and Hamning of Cleveland State.
Schroeder won his opening match in the 'B' flight singles, defeating Knot Likitkumchorn of Toledo (7-6(4), 6-4). He fell to Sheharyar Wali of Lander in the second round.
Vogl matched Schroeder's fate in the 'B' flight singles, winning his first match and falling in the second. He outlasted Richard Canelas of Xavier (4-6, 6-4, 6-3). He dropped his second round match to Sebastian Rubiano of Southern Illinois (6-4, 5-7, 6-3).
