Oct. 13, 2007
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Indiana University men's tennis players Peter Antons and Santiago Gruter began competition at the University of Louisville Invitational on Friday. Both Hoosiers played in the "A" flight of singles and teamed up to play doubles in the "A" doubles flight as well.
It was an unblemished beginning to the weekend as both Antons and Gruter won their first two singles matches while also earning an 8-1 victory in their only doubles match of the day.
Antons began the day with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Lucas De Brito from Austin Peay. Gruter, meanwhile, rolled in his first round bout, a 6-1, 6-2 win over Cleveland State's Rob West.
Antons then advanced to the quarterfinals following a 6-4, 6-3 win over Alex Das from Eastern Kentucky. He will next play a member of the host school, Louisville's Alejandro Calligari. Gruter's second round match began with an easy first set (6-2), but the second got more interesting as it went to a tie-breaker in which Gruter won 7-2 for the match. His quarterfinal foe will be Luka Marinkovic from Illinois State.
The invitational continues on Saturday and will run through Sunday.
