Nov. 12, 2006
Bubenicek, the eight seed, started the day with a 6-0, 7-5 victory over tenth-seeded Ryan Heller of Michigan. He then defeated Michigan's Peter Aarts, 6-3, 6-0 to reach the semifinals. Bubenicek faces fourth-seeded Nolan Polley of Wisconsin in the semifinals. Polley is the defending champion of the championship.
No. 12 seeded McLoughlin downed Drew Eberly of Ohio State, 6-4, 7-5 in the third round before earning a three-set win over Andrew Mazlin of Michigan, 2-6, 7-6, 6-4. He has a tough challenge ahead of him in the semifinals, taking on second-seeded and No. 25 ranked Matko Maravic of Michigan.
"This is the second year in a row that we've had two guys in the semifinals," head coach Ken Hydinger said. "We'd like to bring home the title this year. David played very well in both of his matches, earning convincing wins in both of them. He played with a lot of focus today. Dara struggled early in his quarterfinal match, but he kept his composure and worked to close out match. It was good day's worth of fighting for both of them."
In other action, sophomore Mak Kendall defeated Ryan Gormley of Penn State, 6-4, 6-4 in his first consolation match of the day before falling 6-4, 6-1 to Michael Dierberger of Wisconsin.
