McLoughlin took down Dino Bilankov from Minnesota by a score of 6-3, 6-2 in the round of 16. His run then ended in the quarterfinals, however, dropping a 6-4, 6-4 decision to Michigan's Jason Jung.
Richter took on a Wolverine in the second round, getting by Mike DePietro, 6-3, 6-3. He then rolled by Peter Marrack of Wisconsin, 6-2, 6-3 to reach the quarterfinals. Unfortunately, Richter was then upended 6-3, 6-1 by Nolan Polley (Wisconsin).
Redshirt freshman Phillip Eilers won his second round match as well with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Wisconsin's Michael Dierberger. He then suffered a heart-breaker in the round of 16. After splitting the first two sets, the third and final frame went into a tie-breaker. Michigan's Mike Sroczynski pulled off a 7-2 win in the tie-breaker.
Three other members of the IU men's tennis team continued their play at the championship as well in the consolation bracket. Junior Peter Antons won his first round consolation match over Felipe Bellido (Wisconsin). His weekend came to end in the next round, falling to DePietro of Michigan 6-3, 6-2.
DePiertro knocked out another Hoosier the following round as well, but not before Jai Yoon notched a pair of wins in the first two rounds of the consolation bracket. Yoon prevailed in a tight one against Ohio State's Mike O'Connell in the second round. The second set, and the match, ended when Yoon captured an 11-9 tie-breaker triumph.
Freshman Sanitago Gruter also played in the consolation draw, falling to Pierre Dumas of Minnesota in a tough, three-set match (3-6, 6-2, 1-0).
