Hoosiers Fall In Finals of Big Ten Singles Championship
Nov. 13, 2006
ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Senior David Bubenicek fell in the finals of the Big Ten Singles Championship, hosted by the University of Michigan.
Bubenicek fell to No. 2 seeded and 25th ranked Matko Maravic of Michigan, 6-3, 6-2.
"It was a hard fought match," head coach Ken Hydinger said. "Both players were running and using the whole court. David also played a tough two hours this morning. He said before we got here that he wanted to win this tournament. David took that responsibility, laid it on the line and really gave it a run. It was a great tennis match."
Bubenicek, who was the eighth seed in the tournament, reached the finals with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 victory over defending champion Nolan Polley of Wisconsin to reach the final game.
Junior Dara McLoughlin, seeded 12th, fell to Maravic in the semifinals, 6-1, 6-2.
The Big Ten Singles Championship concludes the fall season for the Hoosiers. Indiana begins the spring season on January 15, 2007, against Morehead State in Bloomington.
