    Men Begin Big Ten Singles Championships

    Madison, WI-The Indiana Hoosiers men's tennis team began the Big Ten Singles Championships today in Madison, Wisconsin. The tournament consists of all eleven teams in the Big Ten and will continue until Monday. The Hoosiers played well today, as they advanced players into second round play tomorrow.

    In the main draw, sophomores Paul Jacobson, Ian Arons and Milan Rakvica all advanced to the second round. Jacobson defeated Ohion State's Kevin Hawke 6-3,6-4. Arons knocked off Minnesota's Danny McCain 6-1,6-2. Rakvica won in straight sets against Purdue's Derek Miller 6-4,6-4. Freshman Rahman Smiley was defeated by top-seeded Tom Chicoine of Minnesota 6-4,6-4 in the first round. Sophomore Brendan Storey lost to ninth-seeded Jon Svensson of Minnesota 6-1,6-2. Junior Gabriel Montilla lost in three sets to the 15th-seed Adam Seikirk 1-6,6-2,6-3.

    The Hoosiers will continue play at the Big Ten Singles Championships tomorrow from Madison, Wisconsin. There will be the second, third and fourth rounds of the main draw, as well as the second and third rounds of both the consolation draw and the number 7 and 8 bracket.
