BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana men's tennis team will open its spring season this weekend, Saturday, Jan. 22, at Notre Dame. Here is a look at the Irish.

Notre Dame, 2-0 on the season, is ranked 34th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association Poll (1/11). The Irish opened their spring campaign last weekend with a pair of wins over Illinois State (6-1) and Toledo (7-0) on Jan. 15.
Sophomore Stephen Bass ranks 77th in the country, while sophomore Barry King rests at 113th. Bass and King are among five Notre Dame players who rank in the top-25 of the Midwest Region rankings. Bass is tied for fourth, while King stands at 14th. Freshman Sheeva Parbhu and junior Patrick Buchanan rest at 18th and 19th, respectively, while senior Brent D'Amico rounds out the five at 21st. The double duo of D'Amico and junior Eric Langenkamp are ranked 14th in the region.
Bob Bayliss is in his 17th year at the helm of Notre Dame.
Indiana and Notre Dame met this fall in singles and doubles competition at the ITA Midwest Regional. IU was 2-3 in singles matches and 1-0 in doubles action against the Irish this fall.
Senior Jakub Praibis picked up singles wins over freshman Andrew Roth (7-6, 7-6) in the main draw round of 64 and against junior Patrick Buchanan (6-2, 6-3) in the round of 16.
Junior Dmytro Ishtuganov teamed Praibis to best sophomore Barry King and freshman Sheeva Parbhu, 8-5, in doubles action at the Regional.
Junior Neil Kenner was upended by sophomore Stephen Bass, 6-4, 6-3, in the first round of the main draw at the Regional. Bass got the best of freshman Michael McCarthy in three sets a day later in the round of 16, 3-6, 7-5, 7-5.
Buchanan defeated sophomore David Bubenicek 4-6, 7-6, 4-6 in the first round of qualifying.
Indiana is 12-6 in spring openers under Head Coach Ken Hydinger. The Hoosiers have played Notre Dame on three occasions to begin the spring slate and have won two of those meetings. The Irish got the best of IU last season, 6-1, on Jan. 17, 2004, in Bloomington. Indiana captured the previous two affairs to open its spring season, 4-3 on Jan. 25, 2001 in South Bend and also 4-3, at home, on Jan. 29, 2000.
