    Upended at No. 34 Notre Dame

    SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The No. 62 Indiana men's tennis team lost 5-2 to No. 34 Notre Dame in its spring opener on Saturday afternoon at Eck Tennis Pavilion.

    The team of senior Jakub Praibis and junior Dmytro Ishtuganov proved successful at the No. 2 doubles spot by posting an 8-5 win over junior Eric Langenkamp and freshman Sheeva Parbhu. The Irish won the other two doubles contests to claim to lone duo point.

    Praibis, No. 61 in the country, won his singles match, 6-4, 7-5, over No. 77 sophomore Stephen Bass at the No. 1 position. Senior Ryan Recht also won his singles contest against No. 113 sophomore Barry King, 6-3, 6-3, at the No. 2 slot.

    Freshman Michael McCarthy played a close match with Parbhu at the No. 2 singles spot, but fell 10-8 in the match tiebreaker after each player captured a set.

    The Hoosiers are 0-1 on the season, while the Irish improve to 3-0.

    Indiana returns to action on Jan. 29 for a pair of home matches against Murray State (3 p.m.) and Butler (5 p.m.) in the IU Tennis Center.
