Men Sweep Singles to Gain 4-1 Win
Knoxville, Tenn.-The Hoosiers capped off a very successful weekend today with a win in the consolation round of the O'Charley's Classic against #58-ranked Wake Forest 4-1. The Hoosiers, who looked good yesterday against #12-ranked Tennessee, bounced back from three doubles loss to sweep the singles play.
The Hoosiers doubles teams did a role reversal from yesterday's dominance over Tennessee with three losses today. At No. 1, Gabriel Montilla and Rahman Smiley lost to Andres Guzman and Rick Phillip 8-4. At No. 2, Rakvica and Jacobson lost to Justin Kaufmann and Hayes Calvert 8-4. At No. 3, Ian Arons and Ricardo Jordan, lost a close one to Brett Mauro and Raul Munoz 8-6. With the losses the Hoosiers lost the only doubles point.
The Hoosiers, however, dominated the singles play today. At No. 1, Arons defeated Mauro 6-1,6-2. Montilla won a three-set match over Kaufmann 6-2,5-7,6-4. At No. 4, Rakvica won easily over Hayes Calvert 6-1,6-1. Jacobson, also won in straight sets, as he defeated Phillip 6-4,6-3 at No. 4. George McGill and Rahman Smiley's singles matches were suspended after the Hoosiers had captured the win.
The men will continue their season next weekend at home, as they will host the Indiana Fall Invitational. The Hoosiers will host Arkansas, Clemson and Kentucky next weekend. Play will start on Friday, February 5 and end Sunday, February 7.
