    #33 Hoosiers Defeat Jayhawks 5-2

Lawrence, KS - The men's tennis team began its weekend road trip with a victory over Kansas 5-2 today. Indiana took the doubles point and won four singles matches to improve to 2-0.

The No. 33 Hoosiers took the early 1-0 lead by winning two of the doubles matches. At No. 1, Ian Arons and Gabriel Montilla's victory over the 42nd-ranked team of Ed Dus and Rodrigo Echagaray 9-7 gave the Hoosiers the doubles point. No. 47 Rahman Smiley and Milan Rakvica defeated No. 51 Alex Barragan and Eleazer Magallan 8-2 at the No. 2 position.

In singles, the Hoosiers battled their way to four victories. At No. 1, Rakvica, ranked 84th, defeated Magallan 6-3,7-6. Montilla, playing at the No. 2 position, easily defeated Barraan 6-1,6-2. At No. 4, Paul Jacobson played one of his strongest matches to post a victory over Quentin Blakeney 6-4,6-1. At No. 6, George McGill won his first dual match of the year with a victory over Dus 6-0,6-4.

Head Coach Ken Hydinger said, "The matches in doubles were really close. After splitting the first two matches, the No. 1 match was dead even all the way through. Ian (Arons) crushed a return on match point, so we won the doubles point. After that we put four matches on in singles and won three of those."

The Hoosier will be in action tomorrow against Oklahoma in Oklahoma City. The match starts at 9 a.m.
