    Hoosiers Host Northwestern, Ball State This Weekend

    ON TAP...After two big road victories last weekend, the Hoosiers return home for matches against Northwestern and Ball State. Indiana will open its Big Ten season on Saturday with the match against Northwestern at 11 a.m. The Hoosiers won last year's meeting 5-2 in Evanston, Illinois to tie the all-time series at 30-30. On Sunday, the Hoosiers will take on in-state opponent Ball State at 3 p.m. The Hoosiers won the meeting in Muncie, Indiana last year 5-2 and hold a 30-7 all-time lead.

    SCOUTING THE WILDCATS...Northwestern comes into Saturday's match with a 3-3 overall record and a 0-1 record in the Big Ten. Last weekend, the Wildcats took part in the Great Northwest Shootout in Seattle, Washington. Northwestern opened with a loss to #30 Washington 6-1, before defeating #61 Tulsa 5-0. The Wildcats loss in the Big Ten was to #8 Illinois 7-0. Northwestern is led by junior Joost Hol, sophomore Brad Erickson and freshman Jackie Jenkins. Hol and Erickson are ranked 44th in the doubles rankings.

    SCOUTING THE CARDINALS...Ball State is currently off to the best start since 1992 with a 6-0 record. The Cardinals are currently ranked 45th in the WingsBank.com Collegiate Tennis Rankings. Ball State defeated Michigan State 6-1 last weekend and had posted a victory over a ranked opponent in #59 Purdue. Ball State is led by senior Ryan Baxter, who is currently ranked tied for 95th in the nation and sophomores Jason Pressel and Andrew Seni.

    ROAD SWEEP...The men's tennis team left Bloomington last weekend and came back with two victories. On Saturday, they took care of Kansas with a 5-2 victory. The doubles teams took two of the three matches for the doubles point, while the Hoosiers went 4-2 in singles matches. The Hoosiers then traveled 250 miles for a 6-1 win against Oklahoma on Sunday. The Hoosiers took all three doubles matches and five out of the six singles matches.

    IN THE RANKINGS...In the current rankings the Hoosiers reamined at the #33 spot. In Region IV, the Hoosiers are ranked 5th. Milan Rakvica is currently ranked 93rd in the nation and 24th in the Region in singles. In doubles the team of Rakvica and Rahman Smiley moved up two spots to be ranked 45th in the country and 11th in the Region.

    Jacobson Starts Strong...After the first three matches of the dual season, junior Paul Jacobson has posted a 3-1 record. He is currently on a five match winning streak that began during the Indiana Winter Inviational.

    DOUBLES PLAY...The play of the doubles teams has helped lead to the Hoosiers 3-0 start. It has won the doubles point in each match this season and has posted a 8-1 record. The top two teams (Ian Arons/Gabriel Montilla and Milan Rakvica/Rahman Smiley) are both 3-0 on the season, while the No. 3 team of Paul Jacobson and Ari Widlansky are 2-1.

    HYDINGER REACHES 300 WINS...with the Hoosiers win over Notre Dame, head coach Ken Hydinger picked up his 300th career victory. Hydinger is currently in his 16th season as the Head Coach of the men's tennis team. He has a overall record of 236-158-1, while going 104-80 in the Big Ten. Coach Hydinger has been a coach at the collegiate level for 21 years, coaching at Southwest Missouri State and Mississippi State before coming to Indiana. In his 20 years of coaching he has a record of 302-203-1.

    IAN ARONS - currently 2-1 in dual matches...went 1-1 in Flight 2 and 0-1 in Flight 1 at the Indiana Winter Invitational...defeated #65 Matt Daly of Notre Dame 6-4,7-5...went 1-2 at the Big Ten Singles Championships, defeating Minnesota's Jorge Duanas 4-6,7-5,6-4 in the first round...finished fall with a 5-3 singles record...competed in two legs of the Collegiate Tennis Grand Slam at the ITA National Clay Court Championships and the Reebox/ITA All-American Championships...made it to the qualifying round at the All-American Championship with four wins, went 4-1 for the tournament.

    PAUL JACOBSON - currently 2-1 in dual matches...went 3-0 in Flight 4 at the Indiana Winter Invitational to win the Flight...lost a tough three-set tiebreaker to Javier Taborga of Notre Dame 6-4,3-6,7-6...went 0-2 at the Big Ten Singles Championships...finished fall with a 6-2 record...went 0-1 at the ITA Region IV Championships...won Flight 3 at the Clemson Fall Tennis Classic, going 4-0 for the weekend...went 2-2 at the Tom Fallon Invitational.

    GEORGE MCGILL - currently 2-0 in dual matches...won 50th career match against Penn State's Marc Dorfman 7-6,1-6,6-2...went 3-2 at the Big Ten Indoor Singles Championships...after losing in first round, won three straight in the consolation draw...went 0-1 at the ITA Region IV Championships.

    GABRIEL MONTILLA - currently 3-0 in dual matches...went 1-2 in Flight 3 at the Indiana Winter Invitational...defeated Casey Smith of Notre Dame 7-6,7-6 to clinch victory for Hoosiers and win his 60th career match...went 0-2 at Big Ten Indoor Singles Championships...lost in final round of pre-qualifying at the Reebox/ITA All-American Championships (3-1 for the tournament)...went 3-1 at the Tom Fallen Invitational in Flight A.
