Scouting No. 26 U of L
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The No. 70 Indiana men's tennis team will play a home contest against No. 26 Louisville on Friday, Feb. 18, at 4 p.m., in the IU Varsity Tennis Center. Friday night's match is part of the Hoosiers' "Dinner With Doubles" event held annually. The cost of admission to the contest is $6 and includes an all-you-can-eat Pizza Hut Buffet (pizza, salad and soft drinks). Here is a look at Louisville.
No. 26 Louisville, 6-4 on the year, is coming off a pair of wins over ranked foes on Feb. 12 and 13. The Cardinals beat then-No. 27 Clemson, 4-3, last Saturday in Boston, Mass., and backed up that performance a day later with a 4-3 victory at then-No. 23 Harvard. U of L earned another quality win, 4-3, over then-No. 30 Mississippi State on Feb. 5.
Sophomore Damar Johnson, ranked 124th in the nation, plays at the top singles spot for Louisville. Juniors Jakob Gustafsson and Jeremy Clark hold the top doubles spot for U of L.
Louisville and Indiana have played two common opponents in Murray State and No. 45 Middle Tennessee State. Both teams beat the Racers by the score of 7-0, while the Hoosiers fell, 4-3, to MTSU on Feb. 5, and the Cardinals beat the Blue Raiders, 4-2, on Feb. 3.
Rex Ecarma is in his 14th season as head coach of the University of Louisville.
All-Time Versus The Cardinals:
Indiana holds an all-time advantage of 11-3 over Louisville. The Hoosiers won the first 10 meetings, but U of L has won three of the last four meetings.
In last year's affair, the Cardinals won the doubles point and claimed three singles matches. Seniors Jakub Praibis and Ryan Recht won at positions No. 1 and 2, respectively, while junior John Stone won at No. 6.
