BLOOMINGTON, Ind. The Indiana mens tennis team put together a stellar performance to overcome the 62nd-ranked Ball State Cardinals, 7-0, Saturday afternoon at the IU Indoor Tennis Center.
The Hoosiers improve to 4-2 on the season, while Ball State slips to 5-4 overall.
The Hoosiers began the afternoon earning the doubles point thanks to the tandems of Ryan Recht/John Stone and Dmytro Istuganov/Jakub Praibis, who both won their matches. After Neil Kenner and Ryan McCarthy were stopped by Klint Knable/Paul Newman, 8-3, the doubles point came down to the No. 1 duo of Recht and Stone. The duo pulled away from their opponents to defeat them 9-7.
Indiana swept in singles, with three of the matches going into three setters. At the No. 1 position, junior Jakub Praibis continued his undefeated campaign, stopping Baccarani in a tough battle, 6-7 (9), 6-1, 7-6 (2) to improve to 6-0 on the season. Sophomore John Stone also dropped his first match to Knable 5-7, but bounced back to win the last two sets, 6-0, 6-3. Stone is on a hot-streak, as he as won four straight matches.
Today was a hard fought match, said head coach Ken Hydinger. Ball State came ready to play. We had to get through some tough doubles matches, but then we jumped out pretty early in singles. Overall, it was a good win for us.
