Hoosiers Drop First Contest of 2003; Fall 7-0 at No. 26 Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The No. 39 Indiana University men's tennis team (8-1) dropped its first contest of the season Saturday, falling 7-0 to No. 26 Vanderbilt in Nashville.
The Commodores (7-1) started things off by earning a hard-fought doubles point, with Bobby Reynolds and Lewis Smith rallying to escape with an 8-6 over Zach Held and Ryan Recht at the number one position to seal the doubles point for Vanderbilt.
Things were not as close in singles, as Vanderbilt won all six matches in straight sets.
At the number one singles position, Viktor Libal fell to Bobby Reynolds, 6-1, 6-2. Reynolds, the eighth-best singles player in the nation, improved his record to 25-5 on the year.
Indiana's Jakub Praibis dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision to No. 14 Chad Harris, while senior Petr Novotny lost to the Commodores' Matthew Lockin, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.
At No. 4 singles, Zach Held, a senior from Indianapolis, Ind., fell 6-3, 6-1 to Zach Dailey. Julien Vulliez struggled against Vanderbilt's Lewie Smith at No. 6 singles, losing 6-1, 6-1.
Hoosier sophomore Ryan Recht took his No. 5 singles opponent the farthest in any of the singles matches on Saturday, but eventually lost a 6-3, 6-4 battle to Vandy's Scott Brown.
Indiana will return to the courts on Wednesday, March 26, on the road at Ball State in Muncie, Ind. The match is slated for a 1:00 p.m. start.
