    BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The No. 55 Indiana men's tennis team dropped a close 4-2 decision to No. 17 Vanderbilt on Sunday afternoon in the IU Varsity Tennis Center. With the loss the Hoosiers fall to 3-6 on the season, while the Commodores improve to 8-1.

    Vanderbilt garnered the lone doubles point as the team of senior Scott Brown and freshman Jason Pinsky, ranked 35th in the nation, downed senior Ryan Recht and junior John Stone, 8-5, at the top position. Vandy secured the point with a close win at No. 3 from senior Matt Lockin and sophomore Jordan Magarik, 9-8 (6), over the freshmen tandem of Michael McCarthy and Dara McLoughlin.

    Senior Jakub Praibis and junior Dmytro Ishtuganov improved to 7-2 on the spring, including a 6-0 ledger at the No. 2 spot with a victory on Sunday. The 54th-ranked duo in the country topped sophomore Andy Mack and freshman Ryan Preston by the score of 9-8 (6).

    Brown, ranked 40th in the country, gave the Commodores a 2-0 lead in the match with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Recht at the No. 2 position.

    Sophomore David Bubenicek trimmed the margin in half with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Mack at No. 5. The Kromeriz, Czech Republic, product is now 6-1 on the spring season and 10-4 year. Bubenicek, Praibis and McCarthy have all eclipsed the 10-win plateau on the year.

    Praibis, ranked 100th in the nation, evened the match with a 6-3, 6-7, 6-0 win over Lockin at the top spot. Praibis is now 7-2 at the No. 1 position this spring and 11-6 overall.

    Vanderbilt clinched the match with a win from Preston, 7-6, 6-4, over McCarthy at No. 4, and a victory from Pinsky, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, over Kenner at No. 2.

    Junior John's Stone match at No. 6 with Magarik was unfinished.

    The Hoosiers will return to the courts next weekend as they open Big Ten play in the IU Varsity Tennis Center. The Cream and Crimson will face No. 3 Illinois on Saturday, March 5, and No. 62 Penn State on Sunday, March 6. Both contests are slated to begin at noon and admission is free to the public.
