BLOOMINGTON, Ind. The No. 64 mens tennis team put together yet another stellar performance to overcome the North Carolina State Wolfpack, 7-0, Saturday afternoon at the IU Indoor Tennis Center. The Hoosiers improve to 5-3 overall while the Wolfpack falls to 3-4.
Indiana began the afternoon by sweeping in doubles to put themselves on the board first.
No. 1 doubles, Ryan Recht and John Stone defeated Will Shaw and Val Banada 8-6. At No. 2, Jakub Praibis and Dmytro Ishtuganov downed their opponents Conor Taylor and Dennis Myers 8-6 as well. Finally, at No. 3, Ryan McCarthy and Neil Kenner topped Jon Davis and Ryan Johnson 9-7.
In the singles competition, Praibis was the only Hoosier to win in straight sets while the other Hoosiers pulled out wins in the third set of their matches. Praibis improved to 7-1 on the season after he took care of Taylor 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 1 position. Recht , at No. 2, came back after losing the first set 6-7 (4), to finalize the win at 6-4, 7-6 (5). In another intense match, Stone took on William Noblitt at the No. 6 spot. The match was a grueling one as all three sets went into tiebreakers. Stone won 7-6 (6), 6-7 (5), 7-6 (8).
It was tough all the way, said head coach Ken Hydinger. We got down a little bit in doubles, but pulled it out. The guys were very persistent and kept working hard.
