Hoosiers Look To Return To Winning Ways

On Tap...The Hoosiers (5-2) will try to rebound from their first two losses of the season with two home matches on Saturday. The day will start off at 9 a.m. with a match against Murray State. Last year, the Hoosiers defeated Murray State 6-1 in Bloomington. Indiana holds the all-time series lead with a 12-4 record. The Hoosiers will be back in action at 2:30 p.m. with a match against Austin Peay. The only time Indiana and Austin Peay have meet was in 1974 and the Hoosiers lost the match 8-1.
Hydinger On The Weekend..."We hope to play outside this weekend. Murray State and Austin Peay both play for the Ohio Valley Conference and they have been able to play outside already. They are match-ups that we feel we should win, but going against teams that have had some time outside could make it a bit challenging. Also, playing two outside matches in a day could be a challenge."
Scouting Murray State...Murray State comes into the match weekend with a 3-5 record. Last weekend, Murray State competed at the Austin Peay Invitational and won two of three matches. Murray State opened with wins over Austin Peay 5-2 and Carson-Neuman 7-0, before losing to Western Kentucky 4-3. Murray State's top doubles team of Nikola Aracic and Tony Hardman has posted a 4-1 record.
Tough Road Trip...The Hoosiers were swept in their two matches last weekend and lost for the first time this year. On Thursday, the Hoosiers fell to #61 Purdue 6-1 in West Lafayette. The match was closer than the score with the Hoosiers dropping three matches in three-sets. On Saturday, Indiana fell to Louisville 4-3 in Louisville, Kentucky. After winning the doubles point, the Hoosiers were only able to win two singles matches.
Arons Wins 50th...Junior Ian Arons won his 50th career singles match on Saturday with a win over Louisville's Joachim Lien 6-2,6-2.
In The Rankings...In the current ITA Rankings the Hoosiers moved down 12 spots to the #44 spot. In Region IV, the Hoosiers are ranked 5th. Milan Rakvica is currently ranked 24th in the Region in singles. In doubles the team of Rakvica and Rahman Smiley moved up four spots to be ranked 41st in the country and 11th in the Region.
Seniors Leading The Way...Montilla, have shown senior leadership during the first five dual matches of the season. Montilla has played well at the No. 3 position posting a 6-1 record. He has also been solid in doubles, going 5-2 at the No. 1 position with junior Ian Arons. McGill missed the opening match, but now is the No. 4 player with a 5-1 record.
Hydinger Wins 300th...with the Hoosiers win over Notre Dame, head coach Ken Hydinger picked up his 300th career victory. Hydinger is currently in his 16th season as the Head Coach of the men's tennis team. He has a overall record of 238-160-1, while going 104-81 in the Big Ten. Coach Hydinger has been a coach at the collegiate level for 21 years, coaching at Southwest Missouri State and Mississippi State before coming to Indiana.
