    Praibis Named BT POW, Again

    BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana men's tennis player Jakub Praibis was named Big Ten Player of the Week, announced the conference office on March 11. The senior won a pair of singles matches and one doubles contest last weekend, March 5-6, to earn the honor.

    Praibis picked up the accolade for the second time this season. He garnered his initial award on Feb. 3.

    The Litomerice, Czech Republic, product defeated then-No. 14 Kevin Anderson of Illinois, who entered the match with an unblemished mark of 13-0, in a three-set thriller, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. The Hoosiers lost 4-3 to the Illini over the weekend, but played valiantly in splitting the six singles matches, marking just the second time in 11 matches a team has taken three singles contests from Illinois.

    Praibis has now beaten five ranked opponents this season and 12 for his career. He is 8-2 at the No. 1 singles spot this spring and 12-6 on the year. He also bested Penn State's Mark Barry, 6-3, 6-4, as IU blanked the Nittany Lions, 7-0.

    He teamed with junior Dmytro Ishtuganov to best Bradley Hunter and Ryan Berger of PSU, 8-5.

    Praibis also vaulted from 100th to 56th in this week's ITA poll.

    IU will not return to the courts until Sunday, March 20, for a showdown with Toledo. The match is slated to begin at noon and will be played in the IU Varsity Tennis Center.
