BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -
The #38 Indiana University men's tennis team (10-3) hosts the Cardinals of Louisville (12-3), who are ranked #45 in the country, Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 P.M. Indiana leads the all-time series, 14-4, and have never lost to Louisville in Bloomington.
Louisville's Austen Childs is the 42nd ranked singles player nationally according to the ITA. He will likely be matched up against IU's Thomas Richter, who is coming off a three-set match versus another nationally-ranked opponent last week at Texas A&M.
Tuesday's match marks Indiana's last non-conference match before jumping into Big Ten action exclusively, beginning with a road contest at Minnesota on Saturday.
A big reason for the Hoosiers' early season success has been their superb doubles play. Through the first 13 dual matches of the season, IU has won 29 of 39 (74.4%) doubles matches, while claiming the doubles point in 11 of 13 contests.
Peter Antons and Santiago Gruter own an unblemished 9-0 record this spring, winning all nine matches in which they've played together in the No. 3 doubles position. Antons and Gruter are 18-2 overall as partners, including a doubles championship at the University of Louisville Invitational in the fall.
CLIMBING THE RANKINGS
Indiana vaulted up 25 slots in the March 11th ITA national polls, going from 56th the week before to 31st. It marked the highest ranking the Hoosiers have had since 2001, and was just 10 spots away from their all-time high of #21 in the nation. Indiana is currently ranked #38 with the newest rankings scheduled to be release late Tuesday afternoon.
A trio of Hoosiers have already cracked double-digit wins in singles play during the dual match season, posting 10-3 records thus far. Lachlan Ferguson has manned the No. 4 singles slot all season while Michael McCarthy and Santiago Gruter have earned their 10 wins splitting time between fifth and sixth singles.
looks to join the "10-win crew" Tuesday as he enters with a 9-4 dual match record.
