Three B1G Matches in Five Days for IU
March 19, 2012
Indiana men's tennis (11-3, ranked No. 21) enters Big Ten play this week, and the Hoosiers will dive into the Big Ten slate head first, playing three Big Ten teams in five days. The Hoosiers first visit No. 52 Purdue on Wednesday at 3 p.m. ET. On Friday, IU hosts Penn State at 2 p.m. ET at the IU Tennis Center, and the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes come to Bloomington at noon ET on Sunday for the first match of a doubleheader. Indiana hosts IUPUI at 6 p.m. to wrap up the weekend.
IU has won six straight matches over the Boilers, with the last win for Purdue in the series coming on February 26, 2006. Randy Bloemendaal has never lost to Purdue as head coach of the Hoosiers. The 6-6 Boilers are coming off a 1-3 weekend at the San Diego Invitational with losses to Oklahoma State and Pacific.
Penn State is looking to break a three-match skid against the Hoosiers. The last time the Nittany Lions bested the Hoosiers was April 20, 2008. PSU is 10-4 this season and is coming off a win at Cornell.
Ohio State topped IU earlier this season at home in the ITA Kickoff, and is 20-1 with the lone loss to top-ranked USC. The Hoosiers are looking to knock off the six-time consecutive Big Ten Champion Buckeyes for the first time since 2000. For both teams, the match will be the third of the week, as Ohio State plays at No. 27 LSU and at No. 3 Georgia on Monday and Wednesday before coming to Bloomington on Sunday.
IUPUI is 6-12 on the year and 4-9 on the road. The Hoosiers downed the Jaguars in last year's matchup 7 to 0. IUPUI is coming off of losses at Wright State and Middle Tennessee State and play South Dakota State at IPFW on Friday.
