BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana returns to its Big Ten schedule against No. 23 Minnesota and Iowa. The Hoosiers take on the Golden Gophers on Saturday, March 24 at noon, and face the Hawkeyes on Sunday, March 25, at noon.
LAST TIME OUT
Indiana snapped a five-match losing streak with an upset win over No. 57 Furman, 6-1, and defeated Wofford, 6-1. Highlights included David Bubenicek's upset victory over No. 110 Andy Juc of Furman, 6-2, 6-1, to give him 20 wins for the year. Thomas Richter earned wins at No. 1 doubles and at No. 1 and No. 2 singles for the Hoosiers in the matches.
THE WEEK AHEAD
Minnesota led by No. 93 Raoul Schwark in singles, while Sion Wilkins and D.J. Geatz lead the team at No. 1 doubles. For Iowa, Bart van Monsjou plays at No. 1 singles. Brett Taylor and J.P. Ritchie team up to compete at No. 1 doubles.
HOOSIERS IN THE ITA RANKINGS
Indiana moved back into the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Fila Collegiate Rankings at No. 68 on March 20 after an upset victory over No. 57 Furman. The Hoosiers have been ranked as high as No. 58 in the ITA rankings this season (Jan. 10).
RICHTER JOINS HOOSIERS FOR SPRING SEASON
Junior Thomas Richter, a transfer from Birmingham-Southern, has made an immediate impact after joining the Hoosiers for the spring season. He is currently ranked No. 103 in the latest ITA singles rankings, his first ranking of the year. Richter upset his first ranked opponent on March 11, defeating No. 27 Marek Sramek of South Alabama, 6-3, 6-1, and played at No. 1 singles for the first time this year against Wofford. He is 8-4 in singles and 9-3 in doubles this season with Dara McLoughlin.
BUBENICEK REACHES 20 WINS
Senior David Bubenicek became the first Indiana player to reach 20 wins this season with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over No. 110 Andy Juc of Furman, giving him 20 wins in three consecutive seasons. Bubenicek was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Jan. 18 for his performance in Indiana's first matches of the spring campaign. He is currently 20-9 on the year in singles and 15-5 in doubles. Bubenicek was ranked at No. 48 in the first ITA singles rankings of the year.
MCLOUGHLIN STEPS UP
Junior Dara McLoughlin is 18-4 in doubles this season. He has teamed with both David Bubenicek (9-1) and Thomas Richter (9-3) this year. In singles, McLoughlin is 10-6 in the dual-match season and 16-9 overall.
