BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana men's tennis got a huge victory on Sunday, March 27, knocking off No. 18 Michigan, and the man who sealed the deal has been recognized by the Big Ten this week. Josh MacTaggart is the Big Ten Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the week of March 20-26. He wins the award for the second time this season.

Indiana head men's tennis coach Randy Bloemendaal said the Hoosiers are having a great season, and MacTaggart's successes on the court have played a big role in the team's success.

"We had a great weekend as a program, and Josh played a big part in that," Bloemendaal said. "He has had a great year thus far and has been a force in our lineup. If we continue to play with focus and energy, good things will continue to come our way this season."

MacTaggart's undefeated weekend, helped him remain unbeaten in the Big Ten and helped the Hoosiers do the same. The Barnston, U.K., native went 2-0 on the week in singles play and 3-0 in doubles play, completing his slate of matches in the month of March without a defeat in singles or doubles. In fact, MacTaggart has only one singles loss (to No. 57 Costin Paval of Oklahoma) and no doubles losses since the calendar changed from January to February. In dual matches this season, the sophomore has only two singles losses and one doubles defeat. He is 22-2 this year playing doubles with Stephen Vogl, and the pair has won 12 straight.

MacTaggart's biggest win of the weekend came against Michigan. The Hoosiers upset the Wolverines with MacTaggart sealing the deal at number three singles. After cruising to a 6-1 win of the first set, Michigan's Shaun Bernstein fought back to take a 5-2 lead in the second. MacTaggart refused to let the match go to a third set, winning the next five games to score IU's fourth point and win the match. The victory is the first for IU over a top-25 opponent since a March 8, 2009 victory over No. 19 Wisconsin, and it is the highest-ranked opponent to fall at the hands of the Hoosiers since a 5-2 win over the No. 15 Wolverines on April 19, 2008.

The Hoosiers will look to remain unbeaten in conference when they host Illinois and Iowa this weekend on April 2-3. For complete coverage of IU men's tennis, stay tuned to IUHoosiers.com.
