    Hoosiers fall to Northwestern

Bloomington, IN--The Hoosiers hung in for quite some time, but couldn't pull out the close matches in a 5-2 loss to Big Ten rival Northwestern. Indiana won all three doubles matches, but mustered only one singles win. The loss drops the Hoosiers mark to 8-7 overall, 2-2 in the Big Ten.

Indiana got off on the right foot, winning all three doubles matches. At number one, Derek Pope and Gabriel Montilla defeated the 17th ranked doubles team of Alex Witt and Martin Bengtsson, 8-6. Scott Lippitt and Andrew Held also got a strong 8-6 victory at number two as did Brenden Storey and Ricardo Jordan at three.

In singles, the Hoosiers played some tough matches, but couldn't pull out the victories. Ian Arons notched his 21st victory of the season, winning 4-6,6-4,6-2 at the number six spot for the teams lone singles victory.

"We lost a really close match at five," said head coach Ken Hydinger, referring to Held's 3-6,7-6,6-4 loss. "George (McGill) has got to work on his mental discipline and I think that he learned that today. We've got a really good, young team and I think weUre definately on our way."

The Hoosiers are back in action tommorow afternoon with a 12:00 court time against Wisconsin. Indiana looks to get back into the Big Ten title hunt with the pivitol league match.
