BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana men's tennis team takes to the road this weekend to face Wisconsin on April 7, and Northwestern on April 8. Both matches begin at noon.
LAST TIME OUT
Indiana moved to 2-2 in the Big Ten with a 5-2 victory over Michigan State on Saturday, March 31. After dropping the doubles point, the Hoosiers rallied to win five of the six singles matches for the victory.
THE WEEK AHEAD
Wisconsin is 10-8 on the season, and is ranked 45th by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). The Badgers are led by No. 111 Jeremy Sonkin. Nolan Polley and Moritz Baumann are ranked 37th in doubles.
Northwestern, ranked 57th by the ITA, is 7-10 overall. Christian Tempke is ranked 107th in singles, while Willy Lock competes at No. 1 singles. Lock and Matt Christian lead the Wildcats at No. 1 doubles.
HOOSIERS IN THE ITA RANKINGS
Indiana earned a ranking of No. 71 in the latest ITA Fila Collegiate Rankings, released on April 3. The Hoosiers have been ranked as high as No. 58 in the ITA rankings this season (Jan. 10).
RICHTER JOINS HOOSIERS FOR SPRING SEASON
Junior Thomas Richter, a transfer from Birmingham-Southern, has made an immediate impact after joining the Hoosiers for the spring season. He was ranked No. 103 in the ITA singles rankings on March 20, his first ranking of the year. Richter upset his first ranked opponent on March 11, defeating No. 27 Marek Sramek of South Alabama, 6-3, 6-1, and has played at No. 1 singles four times this season. He is 9-6 in singles and 11-4 in doubles this season with Dara McLoughlin. The duo have been ranked as high as No. 58 this year.
BUBENICEK REACHES 20 WINS
Senior David Bubenicek became the first Indiana player to reach 20 wins this season with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over No. 110 Andy Juc of Furman, giving him 20 wins in three consecutive seasons. He is currently 22-10 on the year in singles and 16-7 in doubles. Bubenicek was ranked 48th in the first ITA singles rankings of the year. He has also been ranked in doubles with Dara McLoughlin. The duo have been ranked as high as 50th this season.
ALSO AT 20 WINS
Senior Arnoud Roussel earned his 20th victory of the year against Iowa on March 25. Roussel is 33-15 for his Indiana career in singles.
MCLOUGHLIN STEPS UP
Junior Dara McLoughlin is 20-5 in doubles this season. He has teamed with both David Bubenicek (9-1) and Thomas Richter (11-4) this year. McLoughlin was ranked as high as 50th with Bubenicek, and 56th with Richter. In singles, McLoughlin is 19-9 overall.
