Ann Arbor, Mich. - The men's tennis team won its third straight Big Ten match with an upset victory over 20th-ranked Michigan 5-2 today. The Hoosiers (12-4) improved to 4-2 in the Big Ten, while the Wolverines (9-4) fell to 2-3 in the conference.
The Hoosiers took the early 1-0 lead by sweeping the three doubles matches. At No. 1, Ian Arons and Gabriel Montilla defeated Matt Wright and Danny McCain 8-6. Paul Jacobson and Rahman Smiley claimed the doubles point with a victory over Ron Nano and Henry Beam at No. 3. George McGill and Milan Rakvica, playing at the No. 2 position, won a close match against Zach Held and John Long 9-7
In singles, Indiana won four out of the six matches. At No. 2, Arons won three-set match over Long 7-6(1),2-6,6-2. At No. 4, McGill picked up a straight set win over McCain 6-4,6-4. Jacobson, playing at the No. 5 position, picked up a win over Ben Cox 6-1,7-5. Smiley finished off the singles play with a three-set victory over Nano 7-6,3-6,6-4. The Hoosiers were unable to pick up wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions, as Rakvica and Montilla each lost their match.
The Hoosiers will face Michigan State in East Lansing, Michigan at 1 p.m. (EST) tomorrow.
