BLOOMINGTON, Ind.-- The No. 68 Indiana men's tennis team wrapped up its weekend homestand with a 4-3 victory over No. 50 Michigan Saturday afternoon at the IU Varsity Courts. The victory was IU's second straight over a ranked opponent and fifth this season, improving the Hoosiers' mark to 10-8 overall and 4-2 in the Big Ten Conference. Coach Ken Hydinger's club has now won four of its last six matches.

The veteran Indiana coach is most impressed with his team's attention to detail.

"The guys know that they have an opportunity ahead of them, and they build it one step at a time," he said. "This group has shown the ability to keep its focus point by point. We're getting good efforts from everyone."

For the second straight match, Indiana set the tone by notching the doubles point. Ryan Recht and John Stone downed Michigan's Anthony Jackson and Brian Hung, 8-4. Jakub Praibis and Dmytro Ishtuganov defeated the Wolverines' Vinny Gossain and Josef Fischer, 8-4.

Hydinger pointed to Praibis for setting the Hoosiers in the right direction.

"Jakub only practiced about 15 minutes this week due to injury," Hydinger said. "So, for him to come out and help us get two doubles victories this weekend was huge."

Praibis sat out the singles matches, forcing IU to adjust its lineup. Recht upended Carey Rubin, 7-6 (2), 4-1 (ret.) at No. 1 singles, and Indiana's David Bubenicek beat Ryan Heller, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4. Finally, Ryan McCarthy recorded a 6-3, 6-2 decision over David Anving at No. 5.

Hydinger could not be more pleased to see his Hoosiers maximize their homestand with victories over No. 55 Michigan State and No. 50 Michigan.

"This is the type of weekend that can make or break a season," Hydinger said. "Kids like Ryan McCarthy are playing with a determination you love to see."

Indiana continues its homestand next weekend when it hosts Minnesota on Saturday and Iowa on Sunday. Each match starts at 12 p.m. at the IU Varsity Courts.
