    Go Hoosiers!

    April 13, 2007

Junior Thomas Richter is in his first year with the Hoosiers after transferring from Birmingham-Southern. He sat down with IUHOOSIERS.com to answer a few questions about himself.

If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
I would like to go to Brazil and see the Copacabana. It has great beaches where you can watch a lot of different people; at the same time, you can enjoy the sun. Awesome.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Hopefully cruisin' in my modified BMW M3 from my yacht to my mansion in Malibu.

Since coming to Indiana, I've learned:
To get up at 7.15 a.m. and run 1.5 miles. I'd rather learn something different, though.

What is your favorite sport besides tennis?
That would be basketball. I like to shoot hoops sometimes, plus I enjoy watching the NBA. The (Dallas) Mavs and Dirk (Nowitzki) are my favorites.

What are your pregame rituals or superstitions?
I don't really have specific pregame rituals, but during breaks in a match, I always re-tie my shoes. I don't know how I came up with that.

What is your favorite tennis memory?
It was during club tennis in Germany. It's the deciding game to go up a league, and my team is behind 0-4. We have to win all the remaining two singles and three doubles, but we're down a set in both singles. My teammate and I win those remaining singles in three sets, but we still have the doubles ahead of us. The other team hasn't lost a doubles match the whole season, but we manage to win all three doubles, two of those 7-6 in the third set. We win 5-4 and go up a league. That was the best tennis day in my life so far.

Something that many people don't know about you is:
I'm a pretty quiet person. I guess you can call it anti-social.

Name one thing that you wish you were better at?
I wish I were better at speaking Croatian. My mother is Croatian, but I have never really caught up with the language. That gives me difficulties when I want to have a conversation with my relatives in Croatia.

What are your goals for this year?
I would like to have two good semesters academically and play strong in the fall to get into the rankings.

What do you like to do when you're not playing tennis?
I just like to relax and surf on the Internet. I'm usually tired and exhausted, so that's the one thing I'm capable of doing.
