BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - On a weekly basis, IUHOOSIERS.com will recognize the top performances in Hoosier Athletics by selecting an IU Athlete of the Week. For the week ending April 16, senior men's tennis player Dmytro Ishtuganov garnered the distinction.

Ishtuganov led the Hoosiers to a pair of conference road victories against Iowa, 7-0, and No. 38 Minnesota, 5-2, on April 14 and 15, respectively. The victory was the first over Minnesota in Minneapolis in 21 years. It snapped a 13-match losing streak against the Golden Gophers. The last time the Hoosiers won in Minneapolis was April 6, 1985. It also was the first win over Minnesota since a 4-3 victory on Feb. 21, 1997 in Bloomington.

The win also was the second this season against a top-40 opponent on the road for the Hoosiers. IU evened its Big Ten record at 4-4 and improved to 15-8 overall. The Hoosiers have won 10 of their last 12 matches.

Ishtuganov knocked off his second top-60 opponent in three weeks with a 6-3, 6-3 win over No. 59 D.J. Geatz of Minnesota at the No. 1 position. The win marked Ishtuganov's 20th of the season and his third over a ranked foe. He evened his Big Ten ledger at 4-4, while improving to 20-13 overall and 13-9 at the No. 1 slot.

In the weekend opener at Iowa, Ishtuganov won at the No. 1 doubles and No. 1 singles position in leading the Hoosiers to a 7-0 victory over the Hawkeyes. The Kiev, Ukraine native teamed with sophomore Dara McLoughlin to help IU claim the doubles point with an 8-2 victory at the No. 1 slot, to improve to 11-9 on the year. He then claimed his sixth, three-set victory of the season, 6-1, 2-6, 6-2, over Bart van Monsjou at the No. 1 singles position.

Ishtuganov earned the IU Athlete of the Week honor from a list of deserving nominees.
