Key Matches Highlight Weekend
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The No. 57 Indiana men's tennis team (11-10, 5-3 Big Ten) will travel to Michigan this weekend for its final two regular-season Big Ten matches of the year. The Hoosiers will face No. 64 Michigan (12-9, 5-3) on Saturday, April 23, and Michigan State (12-10, 4-4) on Sunday, April 24. Both contests are slated to begin at noon.
News & Notes:
***The Hoosiers and the Wolverines are tied for third in the Big Ten standings, so Saturday's match will go a long way in determining the No. 3 seed for the conference championship on April 28 - May 1 in Champaign, Ill. Illinois and Ohio State are first and second, respectively, in the conference standings, and both squads hold the tiebreaker over the Hoosiers, having defeated them earlier in the year. IU is guaranteed the No. 3 seed with two wins over the weekend.
Michigan will host Penn State (April 24) in its other match this weekend. Northwestern is fifth at 5-4 in the Big Ten and has just one conference match remaining, April 23, at home against Ohio State. The top-five seeds for the Big Ten Championship secure a first round bye.
***Senior Jakub Praibis is two Big Ten wins away from tying Charles Wright (1986-89) for 10th place on the all-time IU list for conference singles victories with 23. Senior Ryan Recht is two doubles conquests away from matching Mark Ableman (1992-95) for 11th place on the all-time doubles win list with 60.
