Phillip Eilers was one of the top junior tennis players in Germany. He sat down with to answer a few questions about himself.

If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
I would go to Australia, first, to visit (teammate) Lachlan (Ferguson), and I hear Australia is a really nice place with nice people. I also want to catch up with the Australian culture.

What is your favorite sport besides tennis?
Ice hockey. I'm a big Pittsburgh Penguins fan. I like to play street hockey with my friends back home, but I have a lot of trouble skating. I can just skate straight ahead but the special moves are tricky for me.

Who has had the biggest influence in your life and why?
Definitely my family, they have supported me throughout my tennis career. They drove me to all of the tournaments and practices and have had a huge impact; I can't even describe it.

What are your pregame rituals or superstitions?
Normally, back home, I play cards with my friends just to calm down a bit. Just sit in the corner, make some jokes, just to calm down and get ready for the match.

What do you like best about Coach Hydinger?
I like that he is always motivating on the court and really breathes tennis and tries to teach us to do the same.

    Do you have a nickname?
Most of my nicknames are taken from my first and last name, like Philly or Eilerman.

What are your goals for this year?
My goals for this year are to finish my finals well and then go back to Germany and play in some tournaments.

Name one thing that you wish you were better at?
I want to try to do better at ice skating, to put on some gear and play some ice hockey.

What's your favorite class and why?
My favorite class right now is English because I like the language and I have been speaking it since I was nine or 10 years old, so I'm pretty much used to it.

Something that many people don't know about you is:
I'm a pretty good skier and could have tried a skiing career.
