Big Ten Title on the Line as Hoosiers Head East
April 20, 2011
Indiana closes out the Big Ten season this weekend, making a trip east for showdowns with No. 4 Ohio State and Penn State. The Hoosiers and Buckeyes are the lone undefeated teams in the Big Ten, meaning Friday's 4 p.m. ET battle in Columbus is for the Big Ten regular season title. Indiana plays at University Park on Sunday at noon ET. The Hoosiers are 21-5 this season and 8-0 in the Big Ten, entering the weekend ranked 24th by the ITA.
The Hoosiers look to end a 10-match losing streak to the Buckeyes, and it won't be easy. The Buckeyes return the 2010 Big Ten Player of the Year, Chase Buchanan, who is ranked 12th nationally, and they added Blaz Rola to the lineup this season, who is ranked sixth nationally. OSU has a total of seven singles players with national rankings. Ohio State is 25-2 this season and 8-0 in conference play.
Penn State will look to avenge back-to-back losses to the Hoosiers in the past two seasons. Penn State is led by doubles tandem Eddie Bourchier and Russell Bader, who are 73rd in the ITA's doubles rankings. Penn State is 10-15 this season and 0-8 in conference.
