Hoosiers Close Out Regular Season with Senior Day
April 21, 2010
Indiana hosts its final two matches of the regular season this weekend as Michigan State and Michigan come to town. The Spartans visit Bloomington for a noon ET matchup on Saturday, and the Hoosiers will celebrate Senior Day on Sunday, prior to a 1 p.m. ET meeting with the Wolverines.
On Senior Day, IU men's tennis will recognize Lachlan Ferguson for his accomplishments and contributions to the program and the Bloomington community. Ferguson leaves Indiana as one of 25 All-Big Ten selections in program history. His 67 career doubles wins rank as the ninth-most ever by a Hoosier. Lachlan has played 34 career matches at number one singles and has six career wins over nationally ranked players. Ferguson has been ranked as high as number 52 in singles by the ITA and is currently ranked 34th nationally in doubles.
The Hoosiers have always had great success against the Spartans, as IU leads the all-time series 53-19. MSU hasn't defeated a Hoosier team since 2003, IU has won all but five of the meetings since 1969. Indiana hasn't dropped a match to the Spartans in Bloomington since 1968, and MSU has only won four times at Indiana all-time. The Spartans come to IU with a season mark of 13-11 and a conference record of 1-7.
The Wolverines have had similar success against the Hoosiers over the years. IU trails in the all-time series 14-51. The last meeting between the two teams in Bloomington resulted in a 5-2 victory for IU in 2008. The Hoosiers have won two of the last three matchups at IU. Michigan is 11-8 on the season but holds an impressive 7-1 record in the Big Ten. The ITA ranks the Wolverines No. 26 nationally.
