Lachlan Ferguson comes from a solid tennis background, with both his parents involved in the game. A native of Australia, he sat down with IUHOOSIERS.com to answer a few questions about himself.
If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
I would like to go to Hawaii because I have never been there and I have heard that the beaches are amazing. I can't surf to save my life, but it would be nice to watch people who can. I have tried, but have not had success.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In 10 years I would like to be working with a professional sports team, perhaps in cricket, that would be nice.
What is your favorite sport besides tennis?
My favorite sport besides tennis is, without a doubt, cricket. I played a lot when I was younger, but I had to give it up when my tennis commitments became too demanding.
Who has had the biggest influence in your life and why?
My biggest influences are definitely my parents. My dad's a tennis coach and got me into the sport, and my mom played tennis as well. They are really encouraging and had a positive influence on me.
The best thing about Indiana is:
The best thing about Indiana is the facilities. We don't have anything like this back in Australia. It's a great opportunity.
What do you like best about Coach Hydinger?
Coach Hydinger has a great sense of humor and he always has a smile on his face.
What are your goals for this year?
My goals for this year are to work on the game, so when I can play next year I can be playing at the level that I want to.
What do you like to do when you're not playing tennis?
I love to go to the beach when the weather is good back home, which is most of the time. And I love to play golf.
What is your favorite tennis memory?
My favorite tennis memory is playing in the semifinals of the Junior Davis Cup for Australia when I was 16. That was a lot of fun. We actually lost to America, but it was a great week and a fantastic experience.
Something that many people don't know about you is:
I'm an exceptional equestrian.
