MacTaggart is Big Ten Men's Tennis Player of the Week
April 24, 2012
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana men's tennis (21-8, 7-4 Big Ten, No. 27) had a great week, knocking off No. 20 Illinois among three wins, and ultimately moving up nine spots in the ITA National Rankings. A big reason the Hoosiers had such a good week was the play of junior Josh MacTaggart, who is the Big Ten Player of the Week, the conference announced. MacTaggart knocked off two ranked opponents on the week.
MacTaggart wins his second weekly accolade for the Hoosiers this season, and the third of the season for the team as Isade Juneau brought home the award in January.
MacTaggart took down the Fighting Illini's No. 30 Roy Kalmanovich (6-2, 6-0) and the Northwestern's 124th-ranked Spencer Wolf (6-2, 6-1), and added victory over Jose Soto of Vincennes playing at number one in the lineup. MacTaggart was also a perfect 3-0 in doubles play, playing with Alastair Barnes at number two doubles.
The Hoosiers play Iowa on Thursday in first round action at the Big Ten Tournament. For complete coverage of all things IU men's tennis, stay tuned to IUHoosiers.com.
