Richter Named All-Big Ten
April 25, 2008
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Senior Thomas Richter is a member of the 2008 All-Big Ten Men's Tennis Team, announced the conference office Thursday evening at the Big Ten Tournament banquet.
Entering Friday's quarterfinal match versus Illinois, Richter owns a 24-14 singles record and 26-6 mark on the doubles courts. He has earned four wins over top-100 opponents this season already. His most recent was a victory over #47 Matko Maravic of Michigan on April 19. Richter is 4-5 versus nationally-ranked opponents on the year with additional wins over #87 Jeremy Sonkin (Wisconsin), #53 Kevin Dessauer (LSU) and #41 Austen Childs (Louisville). Richter, himself, is slotted at #120 nationally in the latest ITA rankings.
The Hildesheim, Germany native has won 11 doubles contests in a row with fellow senior Dara McLoughlin, including an unblemished 10-0 run through the Big Ten regular season.
Speaking of McLoughlin, he was also recognized by the Big Ten, as the 2008 Sportsmanship Award honoree for Indiana University. The 11 Sportsmanship Award honorees chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, the student-athletes must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. These student-athletes are now candidates for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, as the Conference office will honor one male and one female student-athlete from each institution at the end of the school year.
The Cream and Crimson continue their run in the Big Ten Tournament today at 3 p.m. eastern time (weather permitting) against Illinois. Inclement weather forcing the action indoors would push the Hoosier match start time back to 4 p.m. Live results are available via the men's tennis schedule page.
