Gruter, Langer, MacTaggart Named All-Big Ten
April 28, 2011
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Three Hoosiers were named All-Big Ten players on Thursday. Jeremy Langer and Santiago Gruter earned first team accolades and Josh MacTaggart was named to the second team. It marks the first time IU has had three all-conference players in one season and the 10th time that the program has produced multiple All-Big Ten honorees in the same season. They are the 40th, 41st, and 42nd All-Big Ten awards in the program's history. Stephen Vogl was also honored as IU's Sportsmanship Award Honoree.
The trio of All-Big Ten players led the Hoosiers to the best regular season in school history. The teams' 22 wins and 9-1 Big Ten record both match the best in program lore.
"These three have been rock-solid at the top of our lineup this year, allowing us to have an outstanding season," Bloemendaal said. "Our team has looked to these three all season when times got tough. They are very deserving of all-conference honors."
Langer played at number one singles for the Hoosiers all season and combined with Gruter to post a dominating 9-1 record at No. 1 doubles in Big Ten play, and the duo has 24 doubles wins this season. Gruter played at number two singles and broke the school's all-time record for career doubles wins this season, sitting at 92. MacTaggart posted a 9-1 record at number three singles, and has 50 combined singles and doubles (23 singles, 27 doubles) wins this season.
The Hoosiers return to action on Friday, playing a quarterfinal match against Purdue at the Big Ten Men's Tennis Tournament. For complete coverage of IU men's tennis, stay tuned to IUHoosiers.com.
