EAST LANSING, Mich.--- The No. 62 Indiana men's tennis team took a step in the right direction on Thursday afternoon as it rolled past 11th-seeded Iowa, 4-0 in the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament in East Lansing at the MSU Outdoor Tennis Courts.

The Hoosiers, who have been battling injuries for the past few weeks gave a great effort all around. In the doubles competition, the Cream and Crimson dominated as they swept the Hawkeyes after the duo of Jakub Praibis/Dmytro Ishtuganov downed Jonny Hoak/Chaitu Malempati, 8-2 and the tandem of Tom Bagnato/Ryan Recht defeated Matis Jasicek/ Aaron Schaechterle, 8-5. With the Hoosiers up 2-0 in doubles, the match between Ryan McCarthy/Neil Kenner and Sebastian Delgado/Walter Valarezo was abandoned with IU holding a 6-5 lead.

At No. 1 in singles, Praibis turned in a stellar performance, taking his opponent Malempati down in two sets, 6-0, 6-3 to put the Hoosiers up 2-0. Following this victory, IU received wins from McCarthy at the No. 6 spot and Bagnato at the No. 4 position to ensure the victory. McCarthy was strong in his set and beat Schaechterle 6-3, 6-4. Bagnato won his first set, 6-4 over Hoak, struggled in the second falling 3-6, but eventually picked up some momentum to finish Hoak off, 6-0.

"We played through some very tough conditions today," said head coach Ken Hydinger. "We did a good job at getting the doubles point early on. Jakub (Praibis) and Dmytro (Ishtuganov) were as great as they have been all year in doubles, and we had solid performances from Ryan McCarthy and Tom Bagnato. Overall I was pleased with our performance and now we have to get ourselves ready for a tough match with Minnesota tomorrow."
